Long Island woman died trying to save her dog

The SCPD reported a woman jumped into the water trying to save her dog and died in an apparent drowning. The incident was reported last night around 1:30am at the Connetquot River in Oakdale, Suffolk County.

The woman identified as Catherine Andreau, 62 was staying on a houseboat when her dog jumped into the water. Around 8am, a worker at the Oakdale Yacht Club noticed a body floating and alerted 911. 

She was removed from the water and the medical examiner transported the body pending autopsy.

The dog was found nearby and taken to a local veterinarian for checkup.

Additional details were not provided by police.

Her family has been notified.

The investigation continues.
