Live poultry markets shut down in NY

The NY Governor's Office reported all live poultry slaughterhouses are to be shut down effective immediately today.

This came after several cases of bird flu reported in the state including NYC and Long Island.

The health dept reported avian influenza were found in NYC including Queens after a routine inspection.

Now the US Dept of Agriculture is working with both state and city health officials as there is no need to panic according to the Governor after no human cases were found so far.

All locations must clean, disinfect and follow the requirements until an inspection takes place when the opening can be announced on February 14.

The Governor also stated this is the main reason why egg prices are higher.

The next announcement will be made on February 14 for all locations to be ready or not to open for business.
