LIE overpass named after the Queens late detective

Brian Simonsen’s legacy lives on.

Today, the Long Island Expressway overpass between Exits 70 and 71 in Manorville, Suffolk County has been named as NYPD Detective Brian P. Simonsen Memorial Bridge who was killed in the line of duty back in 2019 in Jamaica, Queens.

On February 12, 2019, Detective Simonsen, a 19 year veteran with the NYPD, was responding to an armed robbery at the local T-Mobile store on Jamaica Avenue and later succumbed to injuries from the shootout.

According to this widow, the bridge was a sign that he was almost home from his work commute.

He will always be remembered.
