Kratom officially banned in Nassau County

Nassau County officially announced the permanent ban of kratom with immediate effect starting today. The County Executive Blakeman signed the bill to law.

According to AI tracking, Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a Southeast Asian tree leaf consumed for stimulant effects at low doses (increased energy, alertness) and opioid-like sedative effects at high doses (pain relief, euphoria). While used for chronic pain, anxiety, and opioid withdrawal, it is unregulated, addictive, and linked to risks like liver damage, seizures, and fatal overdoses.

Often called gas station drugs, Nassau County became the first to ban the substance while nationwide is gripping with horrors it has caused. As for NYC and NY, a bill is needed to ban and so far it has not been introduced. Meanwhile, many local elected officials in other states have introduced a bill to ban the substance and votes are in the works.

Coming to Nassau County, a new operation is moving ahead to enforce anyone caught selling will land in jail.
