Its ok to swipe your metrocard for strangers in NYC

NYC - MTA reported its ok and legal to swipe MetroCard with other riders as long as its mutually agreed upon. However, anyone getting harassed for a free ride will have to call the transit cop if seen at the station or dial 911. Also, no one can charge others for the ride. The new law will not place fare beaters under arrest but issue ticket by transit cops after reporting. No harassement charges unless assault is involved. In 2015, more than 30,000 people were arrested for fare beating. Most people jumped turnstile due to fare hiking. Until last year, asking riders for fare would lead to arrest. The law changed under Mayor di Blasio. Reported 5pm.
