Inside New Yorks medical fraud capital where often empty senior centers bill medicaid USD100M a year for patients

The bustling neighborhood of Flushing, known for its vibrant East Asian community, might very well be the hub of medical fraud in New York City.

Within just a one-mile stretch, the area features 77 Social Adult Daycares (SADCs) that collectively bill Medicaid over $100 million annually, representing 14 percent of the state's total daycare expenditures, according to a recent investigation by The Post.

Upon visiting several of the largest facilities—privately-owned businesses that have each claimed between $20 and $40 million from Medicaid over the past six years—it was notable that many storefronts were closed. The ones that were open showed a stark emptiness, with vacant rooms lacking any patients. For instance, at Livingwell Day Care on Northern Boulevard, the lights were dimmed over a row of unoccupied tables in the mess hall near the entrance. There seemed to be no seniors present, yet Livingwell reported billing Medicaid $27 million from 2018 to 2024 and claimed to have served over 26,500 patients, according to federal data.
