Homicide in Syosset man kills four family members

             

The Homicide Squad is investigating a Homicide that occurred in Syosset on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 11:58 am.

According to detectives, Second Precinct Officers responded to a Wyoming Avenue residence for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Second Precinct Officers observed a male outside of the home that sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Further investigation revealed that 4 other victims were also discovered inside the residence, deceased. All five victims were pronounced deceased by a Nassau County Police Medic. The investigation is ongoing.

The subject of the homicide investigation has been identified as Joseph Delucia, 59, of Wyoming Court in Syosset.

The four victims found deceased inside of the home have been identified as:

  • Joanne Kearns, sister of the shooter, 69, of Tampa, Florida
  • Frank Delucia, brother of the shooter, 64, of Durham, North Carolina
  • Tina Hammond, sister of the shooter, 64, of East Patchogue, New York
  • Victoria Hammond, niece of the shooter, 30, of East Patchogue, New York

     After Joseph Delucia shot the victims, he turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
