Homeless crisis on the rise in northeast Queens

The local precinct reported volume of 911 calls reporting people harassing and entering private properties. Around 30 homeless are living behind properties on Hillside Avenue and Union Turnpike between Winchester Blvd and Langdale Street. Jamaica/Jericho Turnpike reported larcenies inside shopping lot to vehicle break-ins. More than 200 victims in Glen Oaks, Floral Park and Bellerose to New Hyde Park reported harassment. An official with Creedmoor reported the building is full and cannot accept new patients. According to NYPD, homeless when residents complains are picked by EMS and usually dropped off to local hospitals including LIJ in New Hyde Park where they are released. This week, around 30 homeless were brought to LIJ from Jamaica, Far Rockaways to Brooklyn and then released in the area. According to NYC Mayor's Office, no one is classified as homeless and people have choice to see shelters but not forced allowing them to roam in the streets. The primary obstacle is lack of budget for services from medical to counseling. Many homeless opted to live in streets due to dangerous conditions inside shelters from stabbing to robberies of personal belongings. One homeowner released surveillance photo to police of constant harassment demanding money or threatening to enter while the gate is locked in Glen Oaks. Again, no one will be arrested but taken to hospital and then released back to the streets. The response to EDP in northeast Queens is at the highest peak compared to all the previous years.
