Homeless camps going on the VWE one stretch

The FDNY was called today for a brush fire under the bridge of the Van Wyck Expressway on Jewel Avenue today. According to local residents, there are vagrants in the area who have set up homeless camps by Park Drive East to the Union Turnpike stretch. Also by Liberty, Atlantic and Jamaica Avenues Exits.

The Mayor's Office says the homeless camps are a state problem since Van Wyck Expressway is not a city road.

According to the NYS Dept of Transportation, construction on the Van Wyck Expressway will resume next year now on slow roll due to the holiday and unable to check the premises for anything which is now NYPD's task.

The NYC Park Enforcement Official only has two jobs. One is to issue violations for vehicle drivers and the other is to call the NYPD for disorderly conduct including late night hangouts since all parks close at 9pm. Still the same problems continue inside the parks.
