Heavy fire resulted injuries and loss of homes in Freeport

The Nassau County firefighters reported a heavy fire in Freeport. The incident started last night around 3am on Smith Street.

EMS transported 8 residents from the location to hospitals.

Over 100 firefighters worked on the scene and the fire was brought under control by 5am.

The Red Cross is working to help the residents into shelters for now.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
