Heavy fire at a recycling plant on Long Island

Around 2am, the SCPD reported a fire broke out from a recycling plant in Calverton. Police say the location was at East End on Youngs Avenue. Around 250 firefighters worked on the scene and the fire was brought under control around 7am.

EMS reported two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The location was closed during the fire and there were no inside.

Local residents are advised to keep their windows closed due to the smoke in the area.

Workers who arrived to report to duty were told not to work today.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
