Grand mother and grand daughter dead from NHP fire

Officials at the local hospital confirmed the 68 year old grand mother and 4 year old female grand child died from the injuries from the 3am fire in New Hyde Park.

Police reported there were 5 people inside the home when the fire started around 3am. A 67 year old grand father and a 10 year old grand child along with a 57 year old tenant were inside the home.

The home on North 12 Street with number 147 is now closed for further investigation. The victim child's parents were in Atlantic City when the fire happened.

The 10 year old child jumped from second floor when the fire started to the top of a vehicle parked on the driveway.

Despite injuries, he woke neighbors for help who then called 911. The 10 year old is in stable condition. At the moment, the family is preparing the funeral.
