Free air conditioner for tenants in NYC with a new bill

A member of the NYC Council is in the process of introducing a new bill to allow tenants to have free air conditioner that must be provided by the landlord including apartments.

The bill is similar to winter heat when summer heat is 82 degrees or above, air conditioning will provide cooling around the tenant's living condition. The electric bill from the air conditioner must be paid by tenants.

However, this does not apply to NYCHA or other public housing due to grid control despite NYCHA being the number one slumlord in the city.

Any resident earning less than $3,035 per month in gross income is entitled to a free air conditioner which was launched while back but it has become a failure after electric bills continue to increase by ConEd.

The bill has the majority support since NYC favors tenants over landlords to keep the strong voter base. A used air conditioner is around $50 and as long as it works, that’s all it matters.

If the bill passes, the Mayor is expected to sign it to become law.
