Fatal fire in Long Island

Around 9pm last night, firefighters were called to a home fire in Baldwin. This is on Talmadge Avenue in Nassau County.

The fire started in the basement and extended through the home.

According to law enforcement, police were heading to the private dwelling to issue a warrant for the arrest of a resident in the basement who refused to cooperate. The fire marshal reported the same male allegedly set the spot on fire and remained inside.

The male was rescued from the clutter inside the basement and was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Firefighters are working on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on the body.

The investigation continues.
