Excelsior Scholarship is all set to go ready this fall for students

Albany - Two year and four year public colleges including NY State universities will be eligible for free tuition if their family earns less than $100,000 per year. The program falls under Excelsior Scholarship. It will start with $100,000 for 2017 in the fall. Then $110,000 for 2018 and $125,000 for 2019. There are fine prints involved. The tuition does not cover campus living expenses including room and food. This does not includes textbooks and other materials. Students must complete 30 credits per year to remain in the program but additional adjustments are made upon review by each college administration officials. Another fine print is students must remain in NYS for certain period of years. If they decide to leave, the free tuition will be added as a loan. It will cost taxpayers $163 million dollars for the first year. Reported 10am.
