Downtown Flushing has heavy smoke alert from a house fire

FDNY reported heavy fire at a home in Flushing which started around 10am this morning. This is on 41st Road by 132nd Street near College Point Blvd. Also near the local Home Depot.

The fire is still raging and firefighters are working to bring it under control.

Local residents are advised to close the windows in the area due to heavy smoke. As of now, EMS reported over fifteen injuries from smoke inhalation. The fire marshal declared the incident as 5th alarm requiring more firefighters to the scene.

As of now College Point Blvd is closed for emergency vehicles.

The cause of fire is under investigation.

Update - After the fire was brought under control, EMS reported multiple firefighters and civilians were transported to local hospitals. A senior civilian female died later at the hospital.
