Download the app now says the NY governor

After missed phone calls from contact tracer, NY governor launched mobile app telling all to download the app so people can get alerts if they were contact with someone who is positive. This is in partnership with the federal government allotted budget and additional funding arranged by Mike Bloomberg. The app claim to send alerts without identifying locations using Bluetooth technology and not GPS. Download at ny.gov/covidalerts

Its free to download for all.

The app will know if you were within 6 feet of someone who tested positive, but it won't know where that contact took place, geographically speaking.
