DSNY operation in a joint venture with NYPD for trash bins

Call it Operation Bin Theft.

The NYC Dept of Sanitation announced starting November 12, all residents must have garbage in a bin and not leave the plastic bags outside. This is to control rat population growth but really the city needs to use people to buy them to make money.

Ok since NYC has thefts always, if a bin is stolen, file a report with NYPD and then cops will track down a specific one since all official NYC approved bins with the logo have radio frequency serial number with a tag that allows residents to label address and name.

The NYPD has the device to track the bin using electromagnetic fields and the bin will be held at the local precinct where you can pick it up.

So label up all bins.

This is a statement released by the sanitation commissioner’s office to the press.

Until June 2026, residents can use any bins but if stolen, there is no guarantee it will be returned. Only NYC approved are tracked down. This is a new operation for the city.

The company that manufactures the NYC approved bin is a close friend of the Mayor.

Enforcement of not using a bin, the first offense is $50. Second offense is $100 and then $200 which will remain for all subsequent offenses.

There is no limit of bins with garbage to be placed outside.

As for recycling, there is no need for a bin.

All properties with 1-9 residential units will be required to use bins, 55 gallons or less, with secure lids for trash set out.

The Mayor is pleased to expand this operation to bring more money from the taxpayers to the city's demanding operation.
