DEP crew cleared all roads now free of water

The NYC Dept of Environmental Protection worked around the clock with emergency and overtime measures to clear all the roads from the Cross Island Parkway to Clearview Expressway. As of this afternoon, all roads are cleared of water. Also workers cleared the catch basins on the expressway and parkway by removing debris.

The NYC Mayor's Office says Bayside and Flushing need to be assessed to prevent future flooding. One of the main reasons is overwhelming old sewers during intense rains which will cost the taxpayers over $100 billion and the city doesn't have the money since DEP has a debt of around $35 billion.

However, the DEP does have one positive message for all.

2024 DEP reports show the tap water for NYC from an upstate reservoir meets all EPA standards with very low contaminants like PFAS (0.01 ppt) treated with UV, chlorine and fluoride.
