Connecticut man convicted of homicide after road rage in Kew Gardens

George Cupi, 54 of Connecticut was convicted of homicide of a road rage that occurred in July 2011. The jury announced after lengthy trial on January 18. Cupi was charged with attempted murder and other charges for shooting two brothers on Austin Street in Kew Gardens. The sentencing is on February 18 where he will head to jail for 50 years. One brother was dead and other was injured when they were sitting at the park. The Queens DA's original report stated, according to the charges, the defendant double parked his white van bearing a Connecticut license plate on Austin Street in Kew Gardens, Queens, around 8 p.m. on July 14, 2011. A vehicle approached from behind the van with Jovanny Adames and his wife inside. Adames beeped the car horn several times so the van would be moved and he could pass. When the van did not move, he exited the vehicle and approached Cupi, who was behind the wheel of the van. An argument ensued and Adames? brother Roberto Adames hearing the commotion walked over and all threemen argued until the defendant drove away. The defendant returned to the scene of the argument minutes later. He pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and began shooting at the two brothers as they sat in the Eight Oaks park adjacent to the street where the three men had argued. Roberto Adames, 25, was shot three times in his chest and died. A bullet hit Jovanny Adames, 31, in the face and lodged in his brain, but he survived the injury. Cupi fled the scene and remained free until an anonymous letter was sent to law enforcement in Connecticut stating that the defendant had committed a murder in Kew Gardens, Queens in 2011.
