Coming soon to NYC with muffler love

NYC is back with more news for drivers. A new program, Muffler Noise Pilot under NYC's Noise Code will be introduced in the coming weeks. The objective of this program is to determine the standard noise for mufflers and other equipment in the vehicle to meet the requirement for driving in NYC. Last year, the number one complaint was exhaust noise from vehicles. In 2021, New York enacted a bill into law, The Sleep Act that aims to crack down on excessively loud vehicles. The law went into effect on April 1, 2022 by fining drivers $1,000 but it wasn't successful. Now comes a new method to fine drivers by the use of roadside sound meters and cameras to capture evidence of vehicles emitting noise to mail fines to the owners of vehicles without points.

The same cameras used for speed and red light will have more features to fine drivers.
