Coming soon to NYC fine for double parking

A group of local elected officials in the NYS Assembly and Senate from Queens have brought a new plan to enforce double parking in busy areas in NYC. To get started with this, the NYS and NYC Dept of Transportation along with lobbyists and think tank agencies will need around $35 million to install 150 cameras at selected locations.

The next step is added in the NYS budget since this will bring higher revenues for the state by issuing a $50 ticket for the first offense resulting in over $10 million per month easily. If the Governor approves, the next step is to draft the bill and then pass in both Assembly and Senate.

So far the city has enforcements for speeding, red light and bus lanes cameras. More enforcements with cameras are in the works to fine drivers.

The group that will oppose is the traffic agents since more automation means less jobs in the city.
