Every fall, some Orthodox Jews perform Kapporat, a ritual where a live chicken is held above head and spin thrice while praying. Afterward its slaughtered and donate to charity or the poor. Neighbors living around 208th to 212th Streets on Union Turnpike in Hollis has complained of the ritual. However, according to NY law, its legal after NY Supreme Court passed to conduct ritual outside the streets last September 2015. Since then, animal right activists continue to protest despite the ruling. The local Community Board decided not to act due to legal status so neighbors are left with no choice.
