Candidates piled up lawsuits against BOE for obstructing democracy in NY

The Board of Elections booted more than 25 upcoming candidates for the June 23 primary elections in NY. Some of the reasons were removing names from ballots for not gathering more signatures during pandemic. Some candidates accused the BOE they never got the letter for deadline applications. Some confirmed that BOE authorized not to go door to door or collect signatures during pandemic. Attorneys have filed petitions to add their names back on the ballots for the upcoming primary on June 23 and the general election in November. According to NYS BOE, Andrew Spano says minimizing number of candidates on the June 23 ballot will reduce health and safety risks for elections workers and voters. The court date is April 30 for all knocked out of the ballots. Their campaign managers reported that Cuomo authorized the power to cancel presidential primary, cancelled 6 special elections and raised requirements for 3rd parties to get on the ballots.
