97 000 and growing from homeless to affordable homes in NYC

Since 2014 when Mayor di Blasio took office, more than 97,000 people including homeless were moved into affordable housing which is similar to rent controlled status. The current homeless continue to grow from the 60,000 which are still under process to transfer into affordable housing. Mayor di Blasio released statement on Monday with the update on homeless crisis in NYC. More than 22,00 children attending public schools still lives in shelters and cost the taxpayers $192 a day. Around 8,900 children were transferred to affordable housing for 2018. The average cost is $102 per day and the city is still looking for places to accommodate despite community protests. The Dept of Homeless Service gets over $170 million per year for shelter operation. The mayor's plan of building 90 new shelters in NYC has reported of 15 active at the moment. Additional details of the 75 shelters were not released.
