3 billion can t solve the homelesses in NYC

As of today, the NYC Dept of Finance released their spending budget on the homeless sector in NYC. The budget is $3 billion per year, that’s $250 million a month which comes to around $62.5 million a week. 70% of the budget is allotted to shelters of both public and private including hotels. The other 30% goes to administrative costs including non-profits with salaries, travel expenses and other entertainment for management and staff overseeing the programs. However, the mayor’s office stated this is not enough and must be increased. Management at shelters are awaiting for the next mayor’s decision to increase the budget to house more homeless people and provide jobs, food and housing all paid by taxpayers. One of the administration overseeing shelter to hotel stated $1 million per day to house them in hotels is not enough. Another group stated shelters are littered with crimes and streets are better to sleep in since NYPD are not enforced. Overall, officials are blaming the budget due to various reasons including not enough jobs out there and housing vouchers to meet the demand.
