Year moved to 2027 from 2029 for grocery chains in NYC

Affordable NYC is coming.

The NYC Mayor announced the first city run grocery story funded by taxpayers will start in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. This is at the former Spofford site. The location will open next year for all to line up miles and miles where healthy and delicious food will be available cheaper compared to other super markets city wide. Many demand to make it free but the Mayor says no as of now. Also 740 units of affordable housing will be set at the same location. The Mayor quoted, "In these stores, prices will be cheaper. Going to the grocery store will no longer cause that same anxiety for so many New Yorkers."

The budget will cost taxpayers around $70 million and then expand to all boroughs. Harlem expected 2029 for opening in Manhattan. For Queens, it's going to be in Jackson Heights where the boss of NY, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's team is scouting for a location. Ocasio Cortez quoted, "Access to affordable, fresh food should not be a luxury determined by zip code; it should be a right."

One big alert - lots of items will be locked up to prevent thefts, says the Mayor’s office.

NYC is the best city where no one should work, hungry, homeless, sick, looking for jobs and remain idle all day in public housing or shelters all their lives. As of today according to the NYC Comptroller's Office, 4.2 million New Yorkers were on welfare which decreased after President Trump took office and that number must exceed over 5 million which can happen with city run groceries. The number one race on top of the welfare category is Bangladesh followed by Hispanics of all groups and Middle Easterners.
