Wrong way driver charged with DWI and reckless endangerment

On February 2nd, 2025, at approximately 4:44 am, the New York State Police (NYSP) responded to the eastbound Southern State Parkway in the area of exit 32, in the Town of Oyster Bay, for reports of a wrong way driver. Upon the Troopers arrival, they observed a red 2016 red Nissan driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic. The red Nissan struck a Gray 2020 Toyota in the center lane near exit 20S (Baldwin Rd). Both vehicles contained a driver and one passenger. The occupants in the gray Toyota were extricated from their vehicle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The wrong way driver was identified as Giovannie Merisier, age 43 of West Babylon, NY. Merisier was charged with DWI and Reckless Endangerment 2nd.
