Wrong way crash with one dead on the SSP westbound

Last night around 2:30am, the SCPD reported a wrong-way crash with one dead. This is on the Southern State Parkway eastbound near Exit 42 in Islip, Suffolk County.

Further investigation confirmed the driver, female and her son were inside the vehicle and resulted in a crash. The 9 year old died at the scene.

Police have arrested the mother and charged with DWI.

EMS reported there were 4 injuries.

Parkway was closed until this morning for investigation.
