Woman arrested for assault in Island Park

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of an Island Park woman for an Assault that occurred on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 8:53 a.m. in Island Park. According to Detectives, two women got into a verbal argument while at a convenience store, located at 152 Long Beach Road. Defendant Melissa Smith, 49, of 4 Kildare Road, did throw a hot cup of coffee into the victims face and then punched her in the face. The victim was transported to a local area hospital. The defendant was arrested without incident. Defendant Smith is charged with Assault 2nd Degree. She will be arraigned on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
