West Islip woman arrested for stealing more than USD300 000 from employer

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Patricia Sparby, 66, of West Islip, was arrested for Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, for stealing over $300,000 from her West Babylon employer in her role as office manager.

“This defendant allegedly stole a significant amount of money from her employer by systematically inflating her own payroll disbursements beyond what she was lawfully owed,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Thanks to the diligent work of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit and my office, we were able to uncover her deception and place her under arrest for her crimes.”

According to the investigation, between January 2019 and August 2024, Sparby worked as an office manager at a West Babylon corporation. During that time, she allegedly stole over $300,000 by increasing her pay by thousands each week above what she was entitled to in her paychecks, without permission from her employer.

On May 19, 2026, Sparby was arraigned on one count of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, before District Court Judge F. Scott Carrigan. Judge Carrigan ordered Sparby released without bail because her charge is considered non-bail eligible under current New York State law.

Sparby is due back in court on June 9, 2026, and faces up to five to 15 years in prison if convicted. Sparby is being represented by the Legal Aid Society.
