Update on the Southern State Parkway mayhem earlier today afternoon

Police arrested Kyheem Kelly, 29 of Jamaica after refusing to stop during a routine check by NYS Trooper on Southern State Parkway by Exit 19 in Rockville Centre around 3pm. The trooper noticed Kelly was texting and not staying in the lane. After Kelly pulled over to the shoulder, refused to step outside took off the vehicle on westbound dragging the trooper all over the highway. The trooper managed to hold Kelly's hand and the vehicle, a 2012 Honda Accord hit the concrete divider. Several drivers got out of the vehicle and held Kelly to the ground helping the trooper. With other police vehicles headed to the scene, the trooper was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Kelly was taken into custody and charged with all kinds of violations from assaulting a police officer, DWI to reckless endangerment.
