Two separate vehicle fatalities on the Long Island Expressway

On Sunday around 5:30pm, the LIE was closed due to a vehicle accident with one dead. This is on the westbound by Exit 68 in Yaphank, Suffolk County. Police stated this was a motorcyclist crashed toward a vehicle in the front who was slowing down. The vehicle then hit another vehicle in the front. The passenger in the back of the motorcycle died. The victim was a Garden City resident. The motorcyclist is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Last night around 1:15am, another crash on the LIE. This time it's on the westbound near Exit 57 in Islandia, also in Suffolk County.

The driver was struck by a motorcyclist while changing lanes and then lost control. The medical examiner transported the body to conduct an autopsy.

Both incidents are under investigation.
