Two dead from a fire incident in Jamaica

FDNY reported a fatal fire at a location in Jamaica. The incident was reported this morning around 6:30am on 91st Avenue near 173rd Street in Jamaica. The fire marshal reported the incident was at the detached garage of a home and the dead are possibly squatters.

By 7:30am, the fire was brought under control.

There were no e-bikes or batteries stored inside.

The medical examiner transported the body to conduct autopsies.

The Mayor's Office did not respond to this incident after implying the ambitious program, City of Yes, where anything around a home can be converted into accessory dwelling.

Basement fires are the highest incidents compared to home fires on the first or second floor.

There are pros and cons to City of Yes and most are the latter.

A vote to move forth with the City of Yes will be announced in the coming weeks.

Some homeowners are optimistic and moving ahead with the program, Accessory Dwelling Unit.
