Two Brooklyn residents arrested in monroe for scam involving false FBI impersonation

On August 4, 2025, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at Monroe arrested Wei Baoguo, age 34, and Yu Sheng Gui, age 38, both of Brooklyn, NY, for Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree, a Class D felony.

The preliminary investigation determined that the suspects contacted a 27-year-old victim and falsely claimed to be agents from the FBI. The suspects told the victim that he needed to pay $15,000 or he would be arrested. The victim agreed to meet with the suspects and provided the requested amount of money.

Following the transaction, Baoguo and Gui were located and apprehended later that same day.

Baoguo and Gui were arraigned at City of Newburgh Court on August 5, 2025, and both were released on own recognizance.  They both have a future court date at Blooming Grove Town Court on September 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
