Truck driver arrested for crashing toward a home in Westbury

The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Brentwood man for Driving While Intoxicated on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 12:45 p.m. in Westbury.

According to Police, Blas Flores-Velasquez, 42, of 210 Broadway, was operating a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck on Cypress Lane and did drive through a residence, occupied by three individuals, advancing onto a neighboring property.
Defendant Flores-Velasquez attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers attended to the residents of the home, confirming there were no injuries or other occupants inside the home. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and with the help of the K-9 unit, they tracked down the suspect hiding in a wooded area near the Wantagh Parkway.

Defendant Flores-Velasquez has four prior arrests from 1996-1998. He was deported from the United States in June of 2000 and currently resides in Brentwood as an undocumented individual.

Defendant Flores-Velasquez is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Leaving the Scene of an Incident: Property Damage, Operating a Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver. He will be arraigned Thursday, May 12, 2022 at First District Court in Hempstead. (From NCPD)
