Too many unanswered questions on the Mexican navy ship incident in Brooklyn

As of 1:30am, the NYC Mayor confirmed two people died from the Mexican navy training ship called Cuauhtémoc that hit the Brooklyn Bridge.

One of the ship’s 150-foot masts struck the bridge, snapping and triggering a large-scale search and rescue operation.

The incident was reported on Saturday around 8:30pm on the East River.

During a new conference, the Mayor stated 277 were on board which was part of the training crew that was heading to Iceland from disembarkment when it collided on the Brooklyn Bridge. There were 27 injuries and 4 in serious condition. Of that 4, 2 died later confirmed. All were naval cadets.

There was no one in the water but the vessel had damage when it hit the bridge.

There was no structural damage to the bridge.

The ship, docked at Pier 17 since May 13 for public tours and the Sail 4th event celebrating the U.S.’s 250th anniversary, was a symbol of international goodwill. It's a tall one that is part of the Mexican naval fleet used to train sailors that look like a pirate ship.

The ship was on a training cruise when the incident occurred.

During the press meet, the Mayor's team says mechanical failure resulted in loss of power while another report says tug escort before reversing into Brooklyn Bridge.

At high tide, there is a 127 foot clearance. The ship is 160 feet high which is now making all demanding more answers.

The investigation continues.
