Tomorrow is a new law day for cash in NY

Cash is king and tomorrow all businesses in NY must accept that as a form of payment or face fine up to $1,500. However, this law does not apply to government related services such as MTA.

Despite advanced technology, most people in NY has a bank account or credit card while some prefers cash to avoid technical scams. The bill, New York Senate Bill S4153A is now a law signed by the governor that all establishments must accept cash.

Meanwhile, NYPD is advising all retailers to add security measures from thefts or burglary starting tomorrow especially those that never accepted cash before.

Also stores are allowed to post note that will not accept denominations above $20. No cash required for orders over phone, mail or internet unless at the store only. The new law also does not apply if a store provides a device on its premises to convert cash into a prepaid card. However, the store cannot charge a fee or require that the prepaid card be loaded with a minimum amount above one dollar. Finally, all stores must remove the sign, we are cashless.
