Three people seen entering Queens sewer as manhole mystery continues to grow

According to police, three individuals were observed entering a sewer in Queens.

Police reported receiving a call around 10:22 a.m. Thursday, at about 60th Street and 43rd Avenue in Woodside, three people opened a manhole and entered it.

They saw the three take off a manhole cover and enter the sewage, a witness informed police.

This year, there have been numerous comparable occurrences throughout the five boroughs where people have broken into sewer systems. According to Greg Sanfilippo, a retired counterterrorism sergeant from the NYPD and vice president of intelligence at Doyle Security Services, some people may "go into the sewer system in search of valuables."

No one has been apprehended, and the three men have not been named.
