This time demolition crew set for Rego Parks library

Today, the Rego Park public library in Queens closed for good making way for demolition which is expected to start in Spring next year. Then a new library will be built with three stories to have one floor for children, teens and adults along with multi-purpose rooms and a green roof to see the NYC skyline. Starting January 8, 2026, mobile trucks will be outside the same location only on Thursdays from 10am to 5pm. The construction will continue until 2029 to 2030 fall season time hopefully will be open to the public with balloons.

According to NYC City’s Department of Design and Construction, the plan was originally announced in 2017 for two story and work was supposed to start in 2021 but delayed due to expansion plans. The original budget to build the entire project was $38 million and now it's much more.

Time to catch up with NYC's advanced wave with information superhighway. More libraries are in the planning to make new ones in the five boroughs.
