Suspect in custody for the hit and run death in East Elmhurst

Police arrested the driver of hit and run incident that killed a 5 year old boy in East Elmhurst. The incident was reported on September 1 on 100th Street and McIntosh Street resulting in the death of Jonathan Martinez in front of his father and siblings. The suspect was picked up today from a Astoria location where he was staying under migrant status.

He was working as a construction worker and police stated he was driving without a license and the vehicle was not registered and insured or inspected. This is not his first arrest.

The vehicle was found abandoned after the incident.

Charges are pending from the Queens DA's Office.
