Suspect arrested for criminal mischief at the local park in Hempstead

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Jericho man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 4:33 pm in East Meadow.

According to detectives, officers responded to the parking lot of the Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park, located at 1899 Hempstead Turnpike for a Criminal Mischief.  Upon police arrival, officers were informed by a male victim, 46, that he had left his 2024 Tesla Cybertruck parked in a lot at this location, and when he returned to his vehicle, he noticed damages to the driver side front and rear doors, as well as the passenger side front and rear doors. 

After a thorough investigation, officers determined that Defendant Avesh Vij, 52, was responsible for damaging the victim’s vehicle.  He was placed under arrest without further incident.

Defendant Avesh Vij is charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree.  He will be arraigned on Monday, March 23, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
