Street vendor power to expand with more funding in NYC

The next budget on the list for expansion is under review for street vendor programs. This is a new growing movement for non profits with funding from taxpayers.

After the ICE went to Canal Street in Chinatown on Tuesday afternoon where arrests were made against migrants selling illegal items without permits, there were protests from local New Yorkers whose paychecks depended on them. Since then, protests have been conducted in various parts of NYC to raise awareness of street vendors and seek more funds to run the operation.

One of the major organisations is NY Immigration Coalition, well funded to operate with lucrative contracts from the city and the other one is Street Vendor Project.

After the ICE raid in Chinatown, the area is now with no illegal vendors and the local elected officials supporting the program are upset. The same elected officials supporting the vendors are working on a new plan to drain taxpayer funds with non profits to bring back street vendors in the same area.

Meanwhile, after ICE, DHS, FBI and the IRS cleared the operation, local residents praised the area saying the streets are clean, quiet and peaceful with no knockoff peddlers harassing people where law and order went into effect, something NYC doesn't enforce.
