State police investigate personal injury accident in town of pamelia

On February 6, 2025, at about 1:33 p.m., New York State Police in Watertown responded to Interstate 81 North in the town of Pamelia for a personal injury accident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Ahmed Azzam, age 55, from Ohio, was driving a 2024 Kia north on Interstate 81 in the town of Pamelia when he went too fast for the road conditions, exited the east shoulder, and overturned, coming to a rest before the woods.

The back passenger, Meryem Azzam, age 25, from Ohio, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle's sunroof. She was transported to Samaritan Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver, Ahmed Azzam and front passenger, Asmaa E. Maaroufi, age 32, from Ohio, were both transported to Samaritan Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
