State police investigate drowning at Walton Lake

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Troopers from the New York State Police in Monroe responded to a reported drowning at Walton Lake, in the area of Lakes Road and Sergio Lane, in the Town of Monroe, Orange County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mohammadsadegh Kiani, age 36, of Plainview, NY, had traveled to Walton Lake to spend the day with friends.

Kiani was approximately 40 feet from the shore, in water estimated to be 6 to 7 feet deep, sitting alone on a yellow inflatable paddle board. He lost his balance and fell into the water, where he began to struggle and did not resurface.

Several patrons from the American Legion Post, located directly across the street, responded to the incident. Patrons removed Kiani from the water and life-saving measures were immediately initiated and continued until the arrival of EMS personnel and uniformed troopers.

Kiani was transported by EMS to Garnet Health Medical Center in critical condition. Despite extensive resuscitative efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries. The drowning has been determined to be accidental in nature, with no foul play suspected.
