State of the bail ummm says the Mayor

The headline making a wave is the four migrants from the south of the border arrested for shoplifting over $12K from the Garden City mall and released without bail after being charged. This is due to no cash bail law. The law, which was passed in 2019, allows first-time offenders who are arrested for certain crimes to remain free as their cases are processed for a long long time. The majority of the Senate and Assembly still support the bill and will not change it. The Mayor tried last year with a bail reform change but lost the support.

During the Mayor's State of the City address today, he will be knocking on the doors of both Assembly and Senate to make changes to the 2019 discovery law to speed up the process to reduce the same perps from committing more crimes. They are called, a big word, recidivists, i.e. career criminals.

“There are roughly 1,700 known offenders that are responsible for a disproportionate amount of violent crime in our city. These are New York’s ‘most wanted,’” he said. “We know who they are, and we need to get them off our streets.”

The Mayor says funding the NYC District Attorney's Office is one of the ways to solve the problem. Meanwhile, the Manhattan DA is much more funded by the radical left from third party funding.

As for the rest of the speech, one was particularly for Uber, Lyft and other ridesharing program that all vehicles must be zero emission by 2030. The other issue on mental health is about expanding more programs with funding.
