State Police arrest Broadalbin man following assault investigation

On April 21, 2026, State Police of Mayfield, with the assistance of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Donald W. Edson, 52, of Broadalbin, NY, for:

Assault 2nd, a class “D” felony

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, a class “D” felony

Aggravated Family Offense, a class “E” felony

Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a class “A” misdemeanor

On April 21, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m., troopers responded to a home on County Road 107 in Broadalbin for the report of a physical altercation. The investigation determined that Edson reported that he was in a physical altercation with the victim during which he allegedly obstructed the victim's breathing and caused them significant injuries. The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment and later released. Edson fled the home before law enforcement's arrival. A search of the area utilizing K9s, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and aviation yielded negative results. Edson returned to the home briefly before fleeing again. Further investigation determined Edson has been convicted of a family offense within the last 5 years. In addition, Edson was found to possess firearms in the home, which he cannot legally have due to a previous felony conviction. All firearms were seized.
