Richmond Hill man sentenced to seven years for the fatal crash

On Thursday, September 28, Jairam Budhu, 59 of Richmond Hill was sentenced to seven years in prison for driving a suspended license that caused fatal crash resulting the death of Zaakika Rasool, 40 and seriously injuring her 9 year old daughter. The incident happened on July 2016 around 5pm at the intersection of 130th Street and 115th Avenue. Budhu failed to stop at the intersection and was speeding when his vehicle hit Rasool's red Toyota. Rasool was the passenger in the backseat along with her daughter. After the crash, Budhu took off on foot and was arrested by police two days later in front of his house. In July 2017, Budhu pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter and assault.
