Richmond Hill fire caused by unattended candles

The FDNY reported the massive fire in Richmond Hill on Friday around 1am was caused by candles at the commercial store on the ground floor. The unattended candles sparked inside the store that was closed and extended to the attached six buildings. The fire results in 36 residents homeless who are now in shelters. The fire started at Lemuria Emporium on Jamaica Avenue and 110th Street. The fire marshal reported there was no smoke alarm in the store. The fire was brought under control around 4am involving 200 firefighters.
