Red flag law passed in the NYS Senate

The NYS Senate passed the red flag law which allows complaints from police or family members to petition to temporarily remove firearms from homes.

The home are of people who may present danger to others or themselves despite having license to own firearms.

The next stage is at Assembly and if passes, Governor Cuomo is expected to sign the bill to become law.

The legislation also applies to all ages including children attending school where teachers and school administrators authorize parents to ask a judge to evaluate a child they believe is a threat to themselves or others.

The judge will decide an order the confiscation of firearms unless the process is under appeal.
